The exterior design is characterised by distinctive bumpers in the “R-Line” design with elements in high-gloss black, also high-gloss black side skirts and black 18-inch light-alloy wheels with high-sheen exterior surfaces.
The interior features a multifunction leather sports steering wheel, the driving profile selection and top-of-the-range sports seats with seat covers in the R-Line fabric and ArtVelours microfleece.

The seats in the new Golf are not only comfortable, they are also flexible. The split-folding rear bench seat lets you extend the luggage compartment as you need. Depending on the equipment line, the seats are covered as standard with fabric and ArtVelours microfleece.
The optional leather seats come with active air conditioning as an option, which provide cooling in summer and warmth in winter. Spoil yourself a little on the road too and ease the tension of everyday life.

IDA voice assistant
Say “Hello” to your Golf.
The new online voice assistant (available in R-Line and GTI) offers the convenience of controlling the radio, telephone, your music, the three-zone air conditioning system, and the navigation unit with your voice. For instance, you can easily select a radio station or find a contact in your address book just by speaking.
The voice assistant can be started with “Hello”. It also understands free formulations from everyday life such as “I’m cold.” or “Where are there Japanese restaurants in Auckland?”. In addition, thanks to digital microphones, it now also recognises whether the driver or the passenger is speaking, in order, for example, to provide the air conditioning in the vehicle specifically for the person making the request.
The new IDA voice assistant will also appear visually to you in the future on the centre display, with interactions enabled via graphics. The optimised system also asks questions or lets itself be interrupted.
Keyless access
Golf, open up!
Save yourself the bother of searching for your car key in your trousers, handbag or jacket pocket: once you have the key with you and you are no more than 1.5 metres away from your Golf, the doors and boot lid unlock automatically as if by magic. You also don’t need the key to start the engine. All it takes is the touch of a button. And if the keyless access isn’t working, then it just means that your key isn’t in your pocket after all. Perhaps it’s on the kitchen table?
Head-up display
At a glance. All of the important information.
With the optional heads-up display, part of the windscreen becomes a projection surface that can display your speed, messages from your driver assist systems or navigation instructions. The projection itself is still clearly legible, even when light is shining directly onto the windscreen. So you remain perfectly informed – without needing to take your eyes off the road.

Optional: the eight synchronised loudspeakers with total power output of 480 watts ensure the perfect surround sound, also thanks to the digital 12-channel amplifier and the additional centre speaker. The subwoofer delivers precise bass tones.

Travel Assist
Keeps you in lane. And keeps others at a distance.
With the Travel Assist you have an extremely useful driving assistant on board. It can keep you in your lane, maintain a minimum distance to the vehicle in front and the maximum speed you have set.
One of the features it uses to do this is adaptive lane guidance. This actively keeps the vehicle in the middle of the lane. Travel Assist adapts to your driving style and can also drive further to the left or right in its own lane instead of exactly in the middle.
If your Volkswagen is fitted with Park Assist, Side Assist and a navigation system, Travel Assist can also actively support you when changing lanes on the motorway as an option.
Here, the vehicle speed can be adapted to applicable speed limits as well as road layouts (bends, roundabouts etc.).
If you no longer show any driving activity as a result of a medical emergency, the optional Emergency Assist can register this and attempt to reactivate you. If it is unsuccessful in doing so, it can bring the vehicle to a controlled stop and prevent an accident, within the system limits.
Lane Assist and Side Assist
Staying in lane.
Monotonous journeys can sometimes turn into dangerous situations. This is where Lane Assist can help: From a speed of 60 km/h, it can detect whether the vehicle unintentionally leaves its own lane. With corrective steering intervention, it can direct the driver’s attention back to what’s happening on the road.
The Side Assist can alert you to dangerous lane changes. An LED indicator in the exterior mirror tells you when a vehicle is in your blind spot or approaching quickly from behind.
When you signal to change lane, Side Assist calculates whether one of these vehicles could pose a danger to you based on position or speed – and draws your attention to this by flashing conspicuously.
Together with the Lane Assist lane departure warning it can also provide support through corrective steering intervention.
The Rear Traffic Alert (standard on R-Line) warns about vehicles crossing your path when reversing out of a parking space. If you do not react, the system can intervene and brake the vehicle to alleviate or even prevent a collision.
The exit warning system (standard on R-Line) helps you to avoid dangerous situations when exiting your vehicle. It can detect when another vehicle is approaching from behind and warn you acoustically and visually before getting out of the car

Adaptive Cruise Control ACC and Front Assist emergency braking

The Adaptive Cruise Control ACC helps you to maintain a previously set maximum speed and preset distance to the vehicle in front.
The standard Front Assist emergency braking system with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring can warn you of critical situations involving pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles. It can even brake automatically in emergency situations. In evasive and turn-off situations, Front Assist can potentially prevent an impending accident within the limits of the system by issuing a warning or applying the emergency brake.
