Always there for you

Be prepared for almost anything with the safety systems in the California. The driving systems can safely intervene, helping to reduce the risk of accidents on the road.

Driver Steering Recommendation

Newly launched and standard across the T6.1 range, Driver Steering Recommendation gives the driver suggested inputs to help stabilise the vehicle. The system also intervenes using gentle adjustments if it recognises oversteer when cornering.

Crosswind Assist

As part of the Electronic Stabilisation System (ESP), this applies the brakes if the vehicle encounters a strong crosswind. Standard across the range, this feature is activated automatically when travelling above 80km/h.

Lane Assist

Available as standard, Lane Assist countersteers the vehicle if the driver unintentionally drifts from a lane. The system also emits audible and visual warnings via the multi-function display to alert the driver of danger.

Park Assist

This standard feature aids positioning into parking spaces. When reverse gear is engaged, the vehicle automatically assumes control of the steering. All the driver has to do is operate the clutch, accelerator and brake.

Side Protection

Available as standard, Side Protection alerts you with visual and audible warnings if you’re getting too close to other vehicles, pillars, walls or pedestrians.

Adaptive Cruise Control

The optional Adaptive Cruise Control ACC automatically adapts your speed to that of the vehicle driving in front and maintains the distance set by the drive – remaining within the set speed.

Carefully planned right down to the smallest detail

4MOTION all-wheel drive

No journey is too far. Or too steep.

A quick detour into the mountains or a hilly road to the coast: wherever your thirst for adventure takes you – you are prepared for almost anything with the 4MOTION all-wheel drive. Using an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch on the rear axle, the all-wheel drive automatically adapts the power transmission to the current conditions.

Mechanical differential lock

Onwards to the wider off-road world

Keen to head off road and away from the beaten track? No problem: providing additional support to the 4MOTION all-wheel drive, an optional mechanical differential lock is available for the California 6.1’s rear axle. This makes it easier to pull away off-road, even in difficult conditions.

Dual clutch gearbox

One of its strengths: never letting up

The two powerful TDI engines for the California 6.1 can be combined with an adaptive 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG). This allows for fully automatic, almost imperceptible gear shifts without interrupting the tractive force and can adapt to the driving style.

Electrically adjustable, heated and folding exterior mirrors

Everything in view

You decide what lies ahead. The exterior mirrors show you what’s going on behind you: with an electrical adjustment function, they can adapt to your visibility needs. They can also be heated depending on the weather conditions and folded in easily for added protection.

LED Headlights

Merry and bright

A constant close eye on what’s ahead: even if you travel at night, the California 6.1 is always the ideal companion. Especially if it’s fitted with LED headlights: they feature a long light beam and high lighting volume. For the best possible visibility and a safe arrival.

Glazing

Plain and clear

One thing that is clear is that our glazing options provide you with unobstructed visibility as quickly as possible in both summer and winter. However, one thing that is clear to us is that they can do a lot more: for instance, we offer both heat reflecting technology or almost opaque windows.

Double glazing in the living area: Noticeably insulates the interior.

Privacy glass: The darker windows in the passenger compartment provide a high degree of discretion.

Outside Shower

Practical refreshment while on the road

Start your next adventure feeling fresh and clean: the hose on the outside shower can be easily connected to the integrated water tank using a click mechanism. The shower is activated using a switch. When not in use, the hose and shower head can be easily stowed in the back cabinet.

Front opening in the electro-hydraulic elevating roof

The perfect view of the world

Is there any nicer way to start the morning than watching the sun rise right outside your window? In the California 6.1 you can experience just that: the entire front roof window can simply be folded down and inwards so that you can be as close to nature as possible.

Awning

Your mobile protection from the sun

The California 6.1 provides you with a shady spot in even the sunniest of locations: thanks to its high-quality awning. The stable aluminium frame and its robust fabric create a shaded area directly in front of the sliding door. The awning’s housing – which is permanently fixed to the vehicle – is available in black or silver. The crank can be stowed in the tailgate to save space.

Electric 12-way seat adjustment (optional spec only).

Set the course to comfort

Travel doesn’t get much more comfortable than this: with the optional electric 12-way seat adjustment function, you can adjust the lumbar support, backrest angle, seat height, cushion angle and cushion length to your individual needs and then save your settings.

Navigation systems

Your destination in your sights: heading to the future

Thanks to modern technology, the navigation systems in the California 6.1 are more functional and intuitive than ever before. Extra innovative: the combination of the digital cockpit with the 23.4 cm (9.2 inch) “Discover Pro” navigation system. This enables you to position the navigation map between the rev counter and speedometer. As such, you can zoom in on both map images. The digital cockpit can display the local environment, for example, while the navigation system shows a larger view of the route. You’ll also receive information about current traffic jams and free parking spaces.

  • 20.3 cm (8 inch) large colour touch display with proximity sensors
  • 4x 20 watts power and four loudspeakers
  • Hybrid navigation, a selection of different map options and free map updates online
  • Hybrid voice control
  • Wireless App-Connect

Camper control panel

An extra feature with lots of extras

Different climate zones. Uneven roads. Foreign places: when you’re travelling, you always have to adapt to new situations. Luckily, the California 6.1 helps you with this. The camper control panel now provides you with a digital central unit that you can use to conveniently control many different functions. The menu items are intuitively selected on the touchscreen. The consumers installed can then be operated by the rotary knob.

Control for the electro-hydraulic elevating roof

To open the elevating roof, you don’t need to do anything but stay where you are. The camper control panel enables you to control the roof without any hassle.

Controls for the power and fresh water supply

Got enough power and water for the next part of your journey? Take a quick look: the camper control panel shows you the current fill levels.

Vehicle angle display

Winding roads, steep slopes, uneven parking spaces – wherever you are, you are not guaranteed to find a sense of balance. Thanks to the camper control panel, you can always keep a close eye on the vehicle angle.

Auxiliary heater

The operating unit is easily accessible in the roof panel. The touch screen makes it easier to control and program the auxiliary heater. For the very first time, you can even start it up from your smartphone.

Sockets

Full power on board

Want to share your favourite holiday moments with your loved ones but discovered that your smartphone battery is dead? Luckily, the California 6.1 has plenty of energy on board: the bulkhead of the kitchen cabinet is fitted with one easy to reach 230 V socket and two USB ports. The latter are powered by the extra battery and can also be used while the vehicle is on the move.

Innovative twists

Packed with more technology than ever before, the Golf is a truly modern hatchback

Shift by wire

Bigger isn’t always better

A significantly smaller gear knob comes as a result of adopting a new shift-by-wire system. This space-saving feature frees up room in the interior by introducing an electronic connection between the gear lever and the transmission.

Head-up display

Keeping your eyes on the road

The main advantage of the head-up display* in your Golf is that you can keep your eyes on the most important information while watching the road ahead. The windscreen is used as the projection surface for both the speed, driver assistance notifications and navigation instructions.

However, it should be noted that the results of this test may not accurately reflect the actual fuel consumption, emissions, or range that a driver might experience in the real world. Actual results may vary depending on various factors such as driving style, road conditions, temperature, weather, vehicle load, and maintenance. Therefore, the WLTP results should be considered as an indicator of the vehicle‘s performance and not as a guarantee of the actual energy consumption, emissions, or range that a driver will experience in real-world driving conditions, or for making a vehicle-to-vehicle comparison.
